At the South by Southwest event on Saturday, Disney provided an in-depth look at the latest attractions and immersive experiences coming to Disneyland Resort.
During a special panel on The Future of World-Building at Disney, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Walt Disney Imagineering President Bruce Vaughn, and actor Robert Downey Jr. introduced upcoming expansions at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure.
Avengers Infinity Defense
Avengers Campus is undergoing a major expansion with two highly anticipated additions: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. In Avengers Infinity Defense, guests will take part in a thrilling battle spanning multiple dimensions as they fight alongside the Avengers to stop King Thanos. The attraction features iconic Marvel heroes such as Black Panther, Ant-Man, and Hulk, immersing visitors in an action-packed mission to save the universe.
Stark Flight Lab
This innovative ride transports guests into Tony Stark’s cutting-edge workshop, where they will have the chance to experiment with advanced Stark Industries technology. Riders will board state-of-the-art “gyro-kinetic pods” that travel along a dynamic track before reaching a massive robotic arm. The arm will then lift them into the air, simulating high-speed aerial stunts inspired by Iron Man and other Avengers.
Unlike traditional rides where technology remains hidden, this attraction integrates its mechanics directly into the storytelling. The seamless transition between the track and robotic arm represents a groundbreaking development in theme park engineering.
Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man for the attraction, recently toured Walt Disney Imagineering and observed how the robotic arm resembled DUM-E, Tony Stark’s assistant from the Iron Man films. Imagineers took note of the similarity and incorporated elements of that design into the attraction.
While Disney has not yet announced an official opening date for these new experiences, construction is already in progress at Avengers Campus, bringing these ambitious projects closer to reality.
